Happy Birthday Mary and Michael!

so in a earlier blog i said i would list things i love about my friends on their birthdays...its michael's and mary's (yes they are twins!) birthdays today and they are turning 21! yayyyy! so i am going to write five things about Michael, five about Mary, and one about them as a pair that i absolutely adore about them!

Mary:

1. how she can make a long distance relationship work yet isn't consumed by talking to the boyfriend on the phone and what not, she has a life and a boyfriend....more girls should learn from her!

2. Mary is sooo freakin hilarious! Her humor not like out there direct, but like she says the funniest things under her breath or in conjuction with what other people say. It absolutely cracks me up! She is crazy sarcastic as well!

3. Motivated! Mary knows when to go out and have fun and when to stay in and study. She has pretty much given up her social life to study for the MCAT this semester so I miss her terribly but know that she has great things in her future. (PS : I can't wait until she takes her test so that I can acutally see her pretty face around)

4. One of my favorite memories of Mary was when I didn't even know her...she was Sally's neighbor and Sally wans't home yet (Sally and I were meeting there) and she let me come in her apartment because she heard me outside. It was sooo nice of her! I don't know if she even remembers that...

5. I love how like natural Mary is...idk really how to say this but like she just has a prescence about her...she is one of those girls thats looks pretty with or without makeup....with her hair done or not done....in sweats or nice clothes....idk how to describe it but im completely envious of her for that!

Michael:

1. Michael hates when you use his name a lot with speaking...for instance saying What do you think, Michael? he would much rather you just say What do you think? and imply Michael...haha...and I always add the Michael so he pretty much always hates me

2. our dinners! Michael and I have recently started cooking meals for each other...like when we feel like cooking we invite the other over for dinner because its really hard to just make food for one...its pretty delicious!

3. his love for fashion - or rahter the finer things in lifle! Michael is the best ever hook up for like 'in' things! He knows when girls are carrying fake purses and has like VIP access at the Coach store...haha pretty awesome!

4. Blackberry wine! Enough said :) Introduced to us by the wonderful Sally!

5. Michael is also incredibly funny! hahaha he is more direct than Mary...and omgshhhh they bounce off each other so incredibly well...it's really NEVER a dull time around Michael! he is a really good person in general :)

Twins: OKAY sooo i have never met siblings that get along so well as Michael and Mary! They absolutely love each other down to the core and show that to each other daily. They hang out...they talk...they do random little things for each other...they define what a brother/sister or acutally any sibling relationship should look like. I really wish I had the relationship they have with each other with my sister.

oh look...and there's the lovely pair now....

okay i love you both! can't wait to celebrate this weekend!

Raining and Doodling

It's raining outside right now...which mean people are going crazy...things i notice about rainy days....

1. everyone complains all day long...just cause the weather is in a bad mood doens't mean you have to be too...comon we need the rain! enjoy it!
2. on campus everyone has umbrellas but everyone is confused when it is appropiate to whip them out...do sprinkles warrant umbrellas...or like when you walking under a walkway and 100 yards later your gonna be rained on again - what do you do with your umbrella? just hold it above your head for no reason or put it down just to put it back up in 46 seconds?
3. speaking of school, i really hate how dead campus is...except for the library of course with is exceptionally packed...but at least everyone is 'studying'

speaking of the library...i havn't been in here in like 2 weeks and i must say the construction is coming along quite nicely! its kinda sad how cool our school is becoming now that i am leaving...i am going to try to snatch a picture of the computer desk that i am currently blogging on with my iPhone to upload later...just have to figure out how to do so without looking like a creeper!

hmm im in a quite pleasant mood today...i shall update this later....just wanted to get my thoughts down before i forgot them...rain boots = unnessecary.....

cute pictures in my notebook i decided to share with you all...great way to spend cellular biology lecture...enjoy :)

The Price of Life

So InterVarsity Christian Fellowship is a pretty awesome fellowship that I am a part of and it is the first time in my life that I really have been presented with the question of what Jesus would do to answer the problems of injustice in the world. Its pretty awesome. So at Breakthrough, a retreat that we had, we were presented with the fact that human sex trafficking is the 3rd largest illegal industry in the world. Honestly, I didn't even know what sex trafficking meant. So it is when people are sold as a commodity and forced to have sex. After the retreat Ana, our staff worker, showed us a movie so that we could feel the heart of the oppressed. We watch and these girls are 8-12 years old, sometimes even younger and are taken from their homes, drugged, beaten and sold for 100-200 dollars as a sex slave. Then they are forced to 'service' men who pay around 20 to have sex with them. When the girls refuse they are beaten into submission and eventually give in. It's absolutely disgusting. And the most disgusting thing is that very few people knows this happens or know that it happens in the UNITED STATES IN YOUR STATE IN YOUR TOWN! What if your 8 year old sister didn't come home one day after school? What if 6 years later she was dropped back off at your house, obviously disturbed, after you had already held a funeral for her because you thought she had been dead for many years now. She tells you she has had sex with over 1,000 men, has ad 12 abortions and is HIV positive. Insane right? The fact is this happens!

So we educated our campus about this with proxy stations up for four days and held a big event called The Price Of Life. We had four proxy stations set up around campus. Two of them were mattress' that said Satisfy your Craving on them. We would give students 500 dollars (in fake money) and ask them how they would satisfy their sexual cravings. The options on the mattress were things like $0 - Booty Call, $50 - Fancy Dinner, $200 - Child Sex Slave....and a lot others. They would read through them all and pin their money on the event they would choose and it allowed us to start the conversation of yes child sex slaves are how some people satisfy their cravings. The other two proxy stations were like a panel, made of wood, that had different injustices that face us on a day to day basis. Some of the options were racism, being poor, cancer, addiction and a bunch others. We would give students those neon dot stickers and they would put them in the box of things that they were dealing with in their lives. We would then start the conversation that God cares about the injustice in their life. They were awesome!

The Price of Life is a game show that was played just like The Price is Right. After the contestants were called down they would bid on young girls, or boys, for a certain length of time. Once you made it to an actual game you could win prizes. Luckily, we had the support of 13 other Christian organizations on campus and 4 surrounding churches so we got really awesome prizes. About 250 people came out so it was pretty successful! First we showed everyone the beginning of the movie that Ana had showed us and kind of did a disclaimer about how some of the things the contesetants would be bidding on would be awkward and hard to think about. Then they played the first round - with the big wheel. hahah acutally the thing that slowed the wheel was a couple of index cards so it took forever! it was kinda funny. Then the founders of Embassy of Hope (an organization that helps women transition from being a sex slave back into society) talked about warning signs, truths about trafficking, and stories about what has happened in our city. They also did a little message about how God can work in your life and cares about you as well. Then they played the second round, the wheel again, long again. Then Ana talked about why Jesus cares about injustice and how following Jesus in your own life and caring about injustice in the world go hand in hand and you can't do one without the other. Ana was pretty awesome and everyone was clapping for her and going crazy! soo cool to see! Then they played the Showcase Showdown! As students, we haven't had an opportunity to see the response cards yet but I know it will be great when we do 'cause God is great! I can't wait! And if you have never heard about this issue, educate yourself. Watch the movie The Day My God Died, join your local Coalition to Stop Human Trafficking, tell everyone you know because they probably don't know either and figure out who, in your area, you would call should you see suspicious signs of human trafficking.

One of the main messages of the night was not only does Jesus care about the injustice of sex trafficking but he also cares about the injustice in your life - and you! Jesus wants to know you....yes youuuuuuuuuuuu!

On a personal note, about 8 of my sorority sisters and my wing crew went out the event! It made me so happy for them to one support me, and two care about this issue. The best thing is it has opened the door for me to have spiritual conversations with them. AND one of the girls in my sorority was moved so much that she has contacted Ana and wants to show the video to my whole chapter! God is good :)

How to Walk In a Hallway

i really hate when people don't know how to walk in a hallway, a crowded school hallway! i didn't know it had to be taught...but here are a few pointers:

  • if you want to stand in the hallway rather than walk, please go to the sides, please do not stand directly in the middle
  • if you don't know where your class is walk on the sides, you'll be able to see the classroom numbers easier and you wont have to stop in the middle and do that turn around where i am thing and totally stop the flow of people
  • walk at a reasonable pace, please dont walk like your 95 - and if your 95 please dont be in the hallway when class lets out
  • should you see someone with a guitar walking behind you and you stop they will hit you with their guitar case and they wont want to apologize because you dont just STOP in the hallway

yay! im glad thats over with :) so im gonna update this about The Price of Life event..but im at work so thats all for now..

This link is so incredibly cool! Check it out!

Hemaggulutination

sooo I had a really great talk this morning in my cell bio lab. before i tell you about the talk i must tell you that this talk really made my morning because: a. i was up till 3:30am completing lab homework b. none of the before mentioned homework ended up being due c. my lab is at 7:30am which means I literally had about two and half hours of sleep...so anyways i really wasn't having the best morning* of my life today!

Nam, is Vietnamese and is in my lab group. He is at least 45min late everyday and flirts with our TA to be able to take the quiz that late. In fact most of my lab group is at least 30min late....leaving me and Nicole to do all the work. Well, today I was the first person in lab from my group, as usual, and start the experiment. When everyone else got there I stopped working on the experiment and decided to do my prelab. Nam walks in and decides to write his prelab with me. We were talking about random stuff and then I asked him if his culture is really strict about dating outside his race. He said yes, and that believes Asians are extremely racist. He said that his parents would be extremely upset if for instance he brought home a white girl. He said that his parents are very afraid that he would lose his culture. We proceeded to talk about what it means to blend cultures and not choose one over the other and how the 'right' girl would never ask him to compromise his culture but would embrace it and celebrate it with him and that he should do the same with hers, whatever it may be.

We talked about that for like an hour and then I asked him if he would date outside his race if thats who he fell in love with. He said YES! very exciting! I love when people realize things about their parents/culture/upbringing that aren't in line with what they really want for themselves and then actually live differently than that. Mainly because I am trying to do that and some things are a reallly big struggle for me and it assures me that I'm not the only one plus other people are examining their own lives as I have with mine recently.

Fun Fact: In Vietnam you say your last name, middle name, then first name. So Nam's name in Vietnamese is Viet Nam! He said his parents named him that so that he would not forget the culture of his 'homeland'. It was pretty interesting!

*On the way to school I did turn the radio to KLOVE randomly, a Christian radio station here but it is broadcast nation wide, and loved all the songs that came on! It was pretty awesome because I was in a really sucky mood and really needed like an outlet (which is what worshiping is for me - its very powerful) since I was gonna be working in a group dynamic. Also, one of my classes was canceled today so I got my nap! YAY! i acutally just woke up from it :)

PRICE OF LIFE IS TONITE AND I WILL POST ABOUT IT TOMORROW BUT ITS GONNA BE SOOOO INCREDIBLY AWESOME! i am acutally looking for my camera now so i can post pictures :) hmm but sad day ::: havn't seen my camera in a week....and ive been looking :(

im reading this blog for grammar uhh changes (?) i dont know the correct word but if you look down here DOWN you will see the time this is posted.....ITS WRONG! weird
peace out

FYI: Graphic Pictures Posted

Today at school I noticed that a lot of people were talking about Abortion and Pro-Life vs. Pro-Choice...things I don't typically hear my classmates discussing. I walked out of the science building after my early morning lab and saw what had triggered the discussions...

Ah-ha! soooo I go and take a look. This display is set up in my school's Sombrilla...the center of campus where everyone hangs out until class - the perfect place for a demonstration of this scale. There are tons of people standing around this display sharing their thoughts on abortion, big posters that say free speech on them where people can respond publicly, cops in the background just in case a fight breaks out and a table full of brochures and a sheet to sign declaring whether you thought this was an effective way of communication and should come back to our campus in years to follow. I thought this was really cool and like what a college campus is kind of all about. It's a time where young people are challenged in the beliefs their parents imposed on them and are forced to think for themselves and form their own opinion of our world. The most amazing part was that I heard about this in class...so obviously the display is doing what it was meant to do.

I have never been for abortion but have always had a problem defending it when it comes to being raped. I completely understand the feeling of not being able to love a child of rape and just like hating it and resenting it every single day. On one of the signs there were reasons why people justify abortion. One of them said...The circumstances of my pregnancy are unfair, I hate the father of this baby. and the response was...Do you favor killing a child for the sins of her father? This response was so awesome to me.

InterVarsity, a Christian fellowship that I am in, is doing an Outreach project later this week and the beginning of next week. We will be educating our campus about Human Sex Trafficing. I can only pray that we will provoke conversations in classes and have students standing around our proxy stations having ah-ha moments like I did today.

Awesomeness :)

I'm not Stupid...Promise...

So today after work I was getting my car, as usual, and well I go to work straight after school so at work I change into professional clothes...ok ok so I get to my car and I put my beloved Sperry's, the shoes I wear nearly every day (unless I'm wearing black) because they are 1. cute and 2. closed toed so i can wear them in labs, on the roof of my car and accidently drive off! yikes...my shoes are still on my car! i dont realize this until im home! booo! just to let you know its like the worst week of my life and its only Monday so this is really just the icing on the cake.

PS: if you see my Sperry's on 410 or I-10 please pick them up and gimme a holler! this is what the look like...tear....

On a better note...yesterday when I was driving back to school I stopped at Bucee's (its a big awesome gas station and if your not from texas you probably dont know what im talking about or why its so incredibly awesome...another reason texas is better than your state) and GUESS WHAT!?!? they have a new tshirt! so i bought one with the bday money my parents gave me! take a look :)

PSS: its my BIRTHDAY tomorrow...presents allowed :)

Happy Birthday T!

so i came up with the clever idea of dedicating a blog to my friends on their birthdays, yesterday was T's birthday so i will list the 21 reasons (because he turned 21) i think he is cool...k....
  1. he is the funniest person i know....we have compatible humor....and thinking about it makes me laugh to myself lol
  2. he is my personal Google-r even though he hates that I don't look things up for myself
  3. we are traveling to Dubai one day - because it fascinates us - we literally wasted two whole days at working reading about and looking at pictures of Dubai (not kidding)
  4. we talk about food at least once every time we talk...fatties!
  5. he sends me random links of random crap when im at work, some interesting, some funny, some inappropriate...but all awesome
  6. T is super helpful - like when i dont know how to do something, how you cure something...basically the things you would ask your mom or dad for help with i just ask him cuz he will know and not judge me for asking and if he doesn't know he will ask his mom for me hahah and i just noticed everyone reading this minus T will think that is really creepy..and maybe T too (side note: i dont live near my parents)
  7. patience....with my computer illiteracy! i mean i think im pretty good but i know nothing compared to him...one time he explained to me what a server was and it took like 30 minutes for me to understand...ha!
  8. his huge dislike for the word cute - but i think he is getting used to it :)
  9. he has taken on my words....like my Abbey-isms! hmm like he spelled cool like kewl one day and he just copies me...cuz bitch im the bomb like tick tick...jk jk jk
  10. he is the youngest person that i know that is so responsible - he really does have his life together and i want to feel like that too
  11. he thinks im smart and i love when people think im smart and he thinks i can get into dental school YYYEAAAAAA
  12. how dramatic he is when something or someone piss him off...lol! he is so funny when he is mad!
  13. when i have a bad day T always answers my depressing emo text that goes soemthing like this 'i have no friends - no one likes me - i hate life' everyone has their moments
  14. how we have intentions of studying at school together but end up gossiping about all the randoms slash hotties around us ALL night long
  15. T says howdy instead of hi but is not country at all...but was in FFA! hahah awesome
  16. he has a 'make yourself happy' attitude about life which is awesome...he isn't attached to things and lives for experience and having fun and wants to move a lot like nm i wont over elaborate cuz it will just annoy everyone...
  17. anytime i am lost in SA i can text T and tell him where i am and he helps me get home and answers quickly so that i can change my driving course before its to late which i am reallly thankful for and probably take advantage of too much
  18. he is really random and always has a weird story haha and i ususally do too so exchanging them makes me feel normal and happy :)
  19. he walks around the mall for no reason on sunny days to get melatin! aww...
  20. this one is selfish but he thinks im funny, and tells me often, and it makes me think he is cool and want to be his friend
  21. he is really just a great friend, he is there when your mad to listen and when your sad and will tell you if your being dumb for being either, and he laughs at your jokes when you need laughter, and he is just nice...
hmm he might be laughing at some of this because i am not the nice sentimental toward my friends girl and i wouldn't say something like that out loud but i will type it and let him read it and he pretty much already knows i suppose....ok ok ok im done being dumb!

soooo HAPPY BIRTHDAY T! i hope it was awesome and since your still asleep i bet you had a great time too!

PS: i want to start a vlog and if i get a MacBook for graduation i will start one! and you will follow it!

Texas Chocolate Cake

So right now I am at my friends house, Jen, and I think that she is AMAZING! Me and Corey just got finished making topographically correct Texas chocolate cake. it is sooo cool. we took a pic - i shall post it later when i get home.

Last night, he is just not that into you was sold out so i saw new in town. it was okay - not great but okay. the older guy that is the love interest is pretty cute too :) and the clothes that homegirl wears are rad! im kinda in love....lover! [anyone see the pumps that faded from navy blue to black - love] omgsh last night i also went to step show presented by alpha phi alpha. it was so cool but i have never felt so white in my life. there were sooo many people there, i would say about 200 and Jaclyn & I were 2 of 4 white people there. btw i love how some people [black people] can dance so well! uhhh not fair! i want rhythm! Ok so I went to the step show with Jaclyn and during the scoring tabulation time they had a dance off to the song stanky leg. i dont know if any of yall know the dance, but i do, and you should YouTube it! its pretty hard to pull off! well Jaclyn enters because no other girl will volunteer herself...haha...she got second and yes she is insane. While at the concert she asked me if I was gonna breast feed my child (when /if i have one...not that i currently have one or am in the predicament where it is something i have to think about in the immediate future) and I said probably not you? and she said no but i will let my husband breastfeed! hmm yes you read that right...

PS: if you haven't seen Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist or haven't seen it since the theaters RENT it! below are some memorable quotes that will / should entice you...
  • Is that a Turkey sandwich?
  • I think we both said some things that we didn't mean...when you broke up with me...on my b-day (im adding to this line cuz i hate like the one word on the line look)
  • I never wash my pants. I like to keep the night on them.
  • We're goin balls deep. BALLS DEEP! That's pretty fun...not always...scary...
I found a vlogger on YouTube that I find hilarious in case you like to watch craziness when you are bored slash are procrastinating on studying...thats me! NDTitan Lady :)

hmm i will edit this a lot but i want to have fun with my frrrrriends! cuz they rock! [the blog has since been updated...and my friends still rock]

PS...i will pretty much refer to guys by a letter and my girl homies by there real names...it will just make it easier...and im easy...NOT!

FML

soo i havn't blogged in a month...wtf...i dunno whats wrong with me but anyways....

michael phelps smokes weed. comon michael - really! i was in the middle of reading one of his books when the news hit [im weird] and now i dont know if i think he is more normal because he is faulted or if i think he is a fake and liar and lacks integrity. im really not sure...?...

im a bio major and i realized today that we are so crazy...all of us! i have this class in the business bldg...first one in four years...and everyone there dresses nice and fixes their hair - the girls even wear heels! dont get me wrong, us science girls like to dress up but DEF not to school. the girls in the sci bldg, where i live, wear sweats, nikes and ponytails!

HAHAHH i have to interupt with this story...so my cat just tried to jump from the couch to my kitchen table. On my kitchen table was my Bible...lol so she jumps to the Bible and it starts sliding off the table and slowly slid off with her still attached! hahhaha...awesome :)

(i dont know where i was going with the above story so...NEXT...)

i should start collecting my thoughts before i go blogging...readers would probably enjoy that better! oh well...this is how I roll! omgsh T is gonna be 21 in 3 days! fun right? and for anyone who wants to be cooler than they currently are..and did not watch The Office episode after the Superbowl go HuLu it now....forget finishing this blog...its lame (i'll admit it) but that episode is def not. talk about it at school tomorrow, or work, or wherever you go and i guarantee you it will make your life more enjoyable!

yesterday i had to go to a classical guitar concert...because im in a guitar class and we have to go to so many concerts over the semester and it was free and at school so i went...lame! i think it took about 4 years off my life! and the artist, if thats what you call him, stood up between every song and bowed....not once....but twice...and didn't like just bow twice...he definitely sat down between each bow...thats just weird.

so thats all...i have to do something cool so i can blog about it...ohhh tontie im going to see he's just not that into you...so ill letcha know how it goes.....later!

oh me and J went on a date and that is def oooover....we dont click so much when sober :)
