Red Meat Red Wine WE!

so this weekend was awesome! Corey and I drove to her lake house on Medina Lake Friday after work. on the way out we got stuff to grill steaks and 3 bottles of red wine! - hence the red meat and red wine weekend. so all weekend we ate like kings...literally, just look at our pictures...and watched movie after movie after movie, all of which i had never seen.

the list of movies include:
the breakfast club
sixteen candles
steel magnolias
harry potter and the sorcerer's stone
x-men 1
x-men 2
roman holiday

so the funniest (only funny looking back at the situation....not during) and scariest part of the weekend happened friday night. we were inside watching movies and started hearing noises coming from the garage.....and we freaked out! we each tried to gain up the confidence to go look through the door but freaked out each time we tried! also, lake culture includes just leaving everything unlocked and hanging out outside and everywhere so we had not locked the door OR closed the garage door OR closed her gate. so we freaked out! and we didn't hear like one noise we heard noise after noise after louder noise. i swear we weren't just scared freaked out girls...neither of us were the girls that camped out in the backyard but ended up on the living room floor after two hours...i mean at this point we were watching the breakfast club! how scared could that possibly make us? but anyways we ended up calling the police and lee because we were super scared...luckily the cop didn't find anything and he assumed that it was some sort of animal and said that he would patrol the area for the night. whew! but when the officer arrived we heard a dog bark and FREAKED OUT and then bang bang bang on the door haha soooo scary...but thank your mister officer! haha but one of our insane questions to lee was, what do we do if someone comes inside, he goes well what do you have to use as a weapon, and my response is a plastic hanger hahaha he goes no that won't work! and then he says goes go to the kitchen and get a knife and corey and i look at each other and both go no we aren't getting up! (btw thank you lee for answering your phone after our 3 frantic phone calls, we figured you'd know what to do and thanks for your response, he wanted to come and protect us, good friend)

okay foodies...here are our awesome meals! we really are too good at food for our own good!

[our three wines...two choosen randomly and one from the wine sample man at HEB...sadly the Palo Alto wasn't opened so we are saving it for Wednesday...of the other two I prefer the maroon one]

[Dinner Night 1: half a steak cooked medium and wilted spinach with sauted onions, garlic, yellow and orange peppers]

[Breakfast Day Two: scrambled eggs with the leftover spinach stuff and tomatoes and bacon]

[Lunch Day 2: open faced sandwhich on sourdough with hummas and grilled eggplant and grilled corn, yes i had already taken a bite out of the corn - sorry]

[Corey and I grilling]

[Dinner Day 2: steak cooked well and baked potato...I managed to eat this whole steak but not much potato]

hope your weekend was spectacular!

Happy Birthday Sally!

every time one of my friends have a birthday i have a birthday list telling all you lovelies why i love the birthday person....so this list is dedicated to my twin, Sally! the one i miss so much!

1. i looooove Sally's outlook on life! she always has a care-free, have fun atmosphere. she loves life and its addicting being around her, she is rarely down and rolls remarkably well with the punches we all know life likes to throw atcha!

2. Sally has the prettiest curly hair! I'm usually not a huge fan of curly hair because I either like it curly or straight not the like not put together look ya know? -but Sally really knows how to fix her hair well and its like her defining trait! everyone talks about her pretty pretty curls! iLOVEthem!

3. she really has had a lot of obstacles in her life but she has overcome....she had to deal with some pretty hard stuff as a child i would think but she knows that it has made her stronger and a better person and she is very open and willing to share her stories with others, it's so refreshing...our society tells us to always be strong in front of each other and not show any vulnerability but she is just the opposite...she is very transparent! and i love her!

4. i am really jealous of Sally's relationship with her brother...they are way close! i wish that i had that sort of relationship with my sister - i think that i need to work on my relationship with my sister so that hopefully we can become closer!

5. Sally is my twin in our sorority, meaning that we both got our big at the same time...we pledged the same semester and instantly became friends when we meet our other pledge sisters, i think it was because neither of us pledged as a freshman. then she left me and moved to san marcos...boo! i miss her so much - but i thank her for the time she was in the sorority with me because that year wasn't always the best for me but she was always there to talk to and we would always go to Emmy's (a super cheap Mexican restaurant close to school) and have heart to hearts...i miss being that close!

Happy Birthday Sally!

How do Mondays always come so fast?

this was another fun filled weekend! friday i met Natalie for lunch - i miss that girl so muuuuch! she is a friend/sister/study buddy from UTSA and she starts student teaching this semester...i am so excited for her and glad that we were able to catch up! friday night Jen A and i spend the night at Corey's. Corey made us dinner and I brought wine! I normally just buy wine at the grocery store but I was feeling fancy so I went to a wine store my by house - Rio de Vino! They were having samplings so I ended up getting one red (for dinner that night) and one white (which Corey and I will drink on our Wednesdate)! they are sooo good! how doesn't love a good glass of wine!

saturday we got up and went to Corey's school and leveled her classroom library....Corey has tons and tons of books so this pretty much took most of the day but it was fun and productive. later that day Jaclyn and I drove to San Marcos to celebrate Sally's birthday...today is her actual birthday...she is turning 22! (LOVE YOU SALLY!) so we all met at dinner at tres hermanas and then went out to the square...it was really fun! i havn't gone out in a LONG time so it was nice...i did have to take care of some sick girlies but all in all it was fun fun fun!

Sarah is my sorority sister so it was soooo nice seeing all my sisters since i am an alumnae now...oh i miss them! she got some good gifts too....man Madison is destined to me a legacy - she got soooo much panda stuff!

DNA Frees Convicted Murderer

so basically i opened up AIM tonight and this is the headline was DNA Frees Convicted Murderer. after reading the article i noticed that they didn't ask the falsely convicted man how he is feeling or what the government does to try to remedy its false accusation....i mean in this case this guy has been in jail for 21 years and convicted of murder and rape. i understand that the state has to use the best technology it has to give justice to the family of the victim and to get him off the streets to prevent a crime like this from happening to another innocent person but MAN what an awful thing to make a mistake on.

i mean what do you think? is it possible for the government to apologize enough? how do you get 21 years of your life back - you can't! ugh this is just gut wrenching to me!

FYI...the article can be found here.

Happy Birthday Jen!

sooo like i said in a previous post this past weekend was my friend Jen's birthday! we all had a great time hanging out this weekend in celebration, special thanks to corey for setting all that up, and eating yummy food and deserts! Jen - sorry i didn't do this earlier....its been a slightly rough week! BUT since i know you forgive me i shall list the 6 things i LOVE about this girl named Jen, why 6? because she turned 24 of course! (do you get my logic?)

1. i love Jennifers crazy competitive nature! anytime we play a game she gets in this crazy frenzy where she yells and screams and jumps and talks smack - all in good fun of course - and stands in crazy stances. hahah she cant play a game remaining in her normal stance she really gets into it!

2. jens style is out of control....its like what i wish i could do but don't know how...haha everytime i tell her that she says well you just put on ridiculous stuff and dont care if people look at you crazy! and her hair! she gets crazy hair cuts but they always look so cute on her :)

3. indie music - jen has tons and tons and tons and tons of music and its all really good and interesting! she introduced me to great bands such as mewithoutyou, mates of state, and tilly and the wall. i love finding new music so i especially like this about jen!

4. she invest a lot in her friends...she really tries to get to know everyone on a very intimate level and tries to gain common ground with them...its something i really admire about her because when i first meet someone i tend to write them off if i dont 'hit it off' with them with the first 5 minutes but she doesn't do that, i mean even people that she might not feel she is close to i think would say that they are close...you know wh at i mean? everyone convides in jen and she is at the center of all the gossip - NOT that she tells it...but she hears it all...which further proves how comfortable everyone feels around her

5. jen is super funny! she cracks me up pretty regularly! and she is very into like inside jokes so I love when she and only one other person crack up because they make eye contact and it triggers soemthing that only them two understand....haha...her laugh is pretty contagious as well

6. jen is always hanging out...i honestly dont know how she does it...unless she just doens't sleep and is secertly a zombie! i mean she is always with the group...always! and the group is usually at her house...its really insane...but its really great! her apartment is always very welcoming to anyone who wants to come hang out and chill or play games or just chat!

Happy Birhtday Jennifer!

Double Lake Weekend!

so this past weekend i went to the lake two times! and to two different lakes! and then spent the rest of the weekend celebrating my friend Jen's 24th birthday (the post to follow will be my typical birthday post for her)! it was such a fun weekend but i must of only got like 15 hours of sleep the whole time! guys....you wouldn't believe this BUT i still havn't watched Big Brother from Sunday - i mean i did catch like 15min of it waiting on everyone to get to the pool - but the other 45 is still a mystery! hahah i know your freakin out right?! so enjoy my pictures below - it was soooo awesome and summery and birthdayie and FUN FUN FUN!

So on Friday Lee and I went to my cousins house and went to Lake Amistad in Del Rio - it is the border between the US and Mexico. My cousin goes to MIT so I hardly ever see him and missed him terribly as he was in China all summer. He is also the closest cousin to me and we just get along really well so it was a good time hanging out with him, Jamie, and his girlfriend, Connie. I didn't know that lake activities, in particular tubing, would make me so sore! my arms were dead the next day, my shins are completley bruised, and my knees and knuckles are been rubbed raw! ouchie! but it was well worth it :)

[Me, Lee, Jamie & Connie - before boarding out boat]

[Jamie wakeboarding]

[Lee wakeboarding]

[thats me in the hole in the cliff! that little cave thing below me led us up throw to the opening that i am standing in, then we jumped off - it was about 20 ft - soooooo much fun]

saturday everyone met at corey's lake house on medina lake for Jen's birthday! it was so much fun, we went swimming and kayaking, the only bummer is that the lake is super low because there has been NO rain in Texas this summer...its so incredibly dry!

[Jennifer (birthday girl), Patrick, Corey, Chris & Andrea]

[Ansel - wearing Jen's hat lol]

[Me, cocking the BB gun, yes I'm a pretty good shot]

drama free Weekend Wrap-Up!

so this weekend was really really fun. on friday Corey and I went out to eat at J. Alexander's and went to the movies to see Julie and Julia. We wanted to get all dressed up to go to dinner so we looked super snazzy .... we even each order the special and shared a bottle of red wine! it was sooo yummy! then Julie and Julia....O-M-G....i want to be just like Julia Child when I grow up. It was so a sweet movie and Julia Child, if the character is true to life, had a refreshing outlook on life that i would like to incorporate into mine a little bit! I forgot my camera at home but Corey took some pics so mayyyyyyybe (please) she could email me them and i can edit this post with them!

[my yummy dinner - striped bass w/ crab meat sauce]

then hmmm Saturday rolled around and I didn't really do much during the day but that night I had dinner plans with Nam and some other people and Cherish happened to text me rigiht before and asked what I was doing that night so I brought her along. So I finally met Nam's gf Anna...she was a lot different than I thought she would be but at the same time was exactly how Nam explained her to be. So we went to a chinese buffet, which was supringly yummy, and then wen to Anna's apartment and played Cranium....it was a lot of fun! and makes me what to hang out with Nam more...i miss that kid!

so then on Sunday all the InterVarsity people went to church together so to support Holly (there is a pic below) because she was speaking about her mission trip to India. She did so well! Then we all went to lunch at Jimmy Johns...okay so I've never been there but it was good - I ordered a BLT unwhich which means my sandwich was made on lettuce loaves instead of bread loaves. haha it was quite interesting! so then went swimming at my apartment and had communal dinner at Lee and Bubba's apartment!

[Eddie]

[Amanda teaching Victor how to sit in a skirt]

[Corey and Holly]

okay so hahahha this picture! this lady was at Dairy Queen when Corey and I went through the drive through. so we play this game where you put things on people's team - ridiculous things, funny things, stupid things. I think I have mentioned this previously. hahaha so this lady became MVP of Corey's team on Sunday!

my quote of the weekend is from the song Weightless by All Time Low...."so it might not be my weekend, but it's gonna be my year" --so there was a lot of drama associated with this weekend that I'm not going to get into and my feelings are still really hurt and I'm feeling reallly betrayed by some people I thought were my friends--BUT I'm not gonna let it get me down, I'm not gonna dwell in it. God has really brought peace to me about the whole situation so I'm just loving life! A lot of great things are gonna happen in my life this year and I cannot wait!

Daughter of Fortune

so I just got finished (Tuesday) reading this book - as suggested and borrowed from Corey! it was a great read...a lot tougher read than My Sisters Keeper but not all that difficult. i would recommend you check it out if your a reader...it was a very good book. and very well written. the book is about a young girl named Eliza finding herself and changing as the world around her changes while searching for her lover Joaquin during the California gold rush. the ending can drive you a bit crazy buuuuuuuuut its a great story of a woman realizing her worth and becoming strong in herself. check it! (oh and i wish mama fresnia's story was summed up) she would be so proud of baby Eliza!

i want these!

OSR Weekend!

this past weekend Corey and I picked Lee up from the airport, he has spent the last 2 months in Mexico City. It was really nice to finally see him again and then we drove to Lee's hometown and spent the weekend in the country - celebrating The Old Settlers Reunion (OSR). haha the above picture is from the rodeo one night, this tractor and the boy playing on it just remind me so much of country livin'. anyways the weekend was really great and a lot of fun! hahaha so i didn't take any pictures of Lee, i really wish i would have but he isn't a picture kinda guy and i didn't want to annoy him within the first couple days he was back buuuuutttttt you can enjoy some pictures of everyone else...
